Claims, geen papers
You don't link papers (you may not have read them) — you link claims: atomic notes in your own words, each anchored to a span in a paper. Make one with note from selection in the reader: select text, click note, and you get a note pre-wired to that span. Because you wrote it, you understand it, so you can honestly connect it.
Short of papers to read? Pull them in from Cmd-K with the + prefix (+arxiv …, +openalex …, +pubmed …) — they land hollow, ready to read and digest. See Werken met het systeem.
Het koppelgebaar
A link has two halves. What you link to is a search (keyboard). How they relate is the valuable half — it carries your thought — so it gets a dedicated gesture. From a node or a board, press Ctrl-Shift-L (or right-press a board node and flick): pick a relation, then pick the target. On a board, release on another node to land the edge, or release on empty space to open a finder ranked by similarity to your claim.
After the target lands you're offered (never forced) a one-line why — "Vaswani drops recurrence, which is what Bahdanau's attention was bolted onto." That sentence is the most valuable datum in the store; it's what makes the edge yours.

Six relations to start. The first keystroke after the gesture picks one; opposites share an axis so the muscle memory is free.

System edges — cites, similar, anchor, link — are the system's voice (citations, cosine similarity). They render distinctly and are never offered in the gesture; the typed relations above are yours.
Boards
A board is a named, hand-laid-out subgraph — "the literature for Chapter 3", "the attention lineage" — not the whole graph (that rots and nobody opens it). Many small boards each curate a view over the one real graph underneath. A link you draw on one board is true everywhere; boards only store layout, never edges. Make one with > new board, or multi-select claims and board them. When a board's argument is shaped, → outline exports it as a .tex section skeleton straight into the editor — ordered by how you laid the board out.
